“Every problem is a gift—without problems we would not grow”
What were you doing before you started at GoPromotional?
Upon completion of my University degree in business management and finance I was employed as a National Account Manager for one of the world's leading drinks companies, where I dealt with a variety of clients across the United Kingdom. Having taken a break to raise my family, I was thrown in at the deep end when my husband (Gareth, CEO of GoPromotional) decided to start his own business–I have been on the journey since day one.
What does the role of Financial Director entail?
As GoPromotional’s Financial Director, I am responsible for all aspects of the company’s finances, reporting back to the CEO and helping to plan the continued growth of the business. This role involves routine bookkeeping, organizing quarterly and yearly budgets, overseeing accounting with clients and vendors, and handling the company’s financial liabilities including taxes. I also advise on business growth expenditures and investments. A key responsibility, and perhaps the toughest one, is to ensure that Gareth keeps life in some form of balance, where he switches off and spends time with the family despite being a workaholic.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I enjoy the having some time out from being a mum and instead being around the team at GoPromotional as they are such a friendly and positive bunch of people.
What’s one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned in your career?
Don’t dwell on any issues or bad days, and don’t let situations or people live in your head rent free. Forget and move on with a view to learn from every experience whether that be good or bad.
What do you like about working at GoPromotional?
The family feel of the business. We are all in it together through the highs and the lows.
If you could pick up a new skill in an instant, what would it be?
I would love to be able to write books.
What do you get up to outside of the office?
When not in the office, and as a mum of three teenagers my evenings and weekends consists of been a taxi for them and any spare time I have left after that I enjoy taking the dogs for a walk, watching movies and cooking.
