Holiday office parties can often be tricky to pull off. Halloween is no exception, especially since it’s a holiday known for its tricks and treats. Here are 10 ideas to have a treat filled Halloween at the office without scaring the human resources department:
- Cubicle Trick or Treating. Split the office into two halves and each half can go Trick or Treating cubicle to cubicle. This is an easy and fun way to relive those child hood experiences of Trick or Treating door to door and requires only minimal investment or time from each employee to bring candy or treats to give out.
- Have a Halloween Themed Breakfast or Lunch. The food can be provided by the company or you can ask each employee to volunteer to bring something they made or bought at a store.
- Halloween Costume Contest. Go all out and have a Halloween costume contest. Based on the structure at your company, this works well as a team event when each team or division of your company picks a theme and plans coordinating costumes for that theme.
- Pumpkin Carving Contest. This is a great way to get involved in a friendly competition that doesn’t involve costumes and makeup. The finished pumpkins also add a great display for the business or add ambiance to the Halloween office decorations.
- Hold a Pumpkin Food Contest. Each employee that wants to participate brings in a pumpkin dish that they made. The whole office gets to taste, judge and vote for a winner.
- Play Halloween Games. Traditional games like bobbing for apples, Halloween trivia, or Pin the Nose on the Witch are always a fun break from the stress of the week at the office. Setting aside an hour or two for some office camaraderie and a good time is a definite morale booster.
- Volunteer for a Charity Halloween Event. There are plenty of community and charity events that are put on for children. The staff volunteering to help a community haunted house or paint faces for kids at the hospital is always a rewarding experience.
- Have a Halloween Sale. Depending on your type of business, having a Halloween Sale can definitely scare up some business. Is your business online? Make a Halloween video and post it to your social media channels.
- Decorate the office for Fall. Halloween decorations have to come down after Halloween, but fall decorations can last through the end of November. Have the office participate in making the office festive, they can make décor, bring in Autumn plants, or whatever they like to change the look of the office for the season.
- Have a Halloween Party at another location. As a last resort, if Halloween at the office is just too “tricky” to pull off, have an “unofficial” Halloween party at a restaurant or bar outside of work and let everyone pay their own way and do their own thing at a coordinated time to meet up.
