As you know by now, there will be a new Doctor Who in December. The Doctor will regenerate in the Doctor Who Christmas special at the end of this year. For the first time ever, the producers announced who the actor is that will be playing the new doctor. As soon as Matt Smith announced that his journey as the doctor was ending, speculation began about who would be next in line for the regeneration. For months, the media, and especially social media talked about, listed possibilities, and even bet on who the new doctor will be.
In today’s world where everyone has a camera handy on their mobile phone, making every super fan a potential paparazzi spoiler waiting to happen, the producers had no choice but to publicly announce the new Doctor Who rather than have it leaked against their will.
Even prior to the live special announcement, the photographer unwittingly revealed the doctor would be a male; and a source from the live studio special leaked that the next Doctor Who is a well known actor. There is very little chance that the show could have made it to December without someone seeing and leaking the news prematurely.
