Apple Pay launched in over 250,000 retailers earlier this month all across the UK. That means that Apple Watch and iPhone users can now use the touchless payment system at the businesses that accept it. These businesses include Waitrose, Boots, Marks & Spencer, Nando’s, BP, and McDonald’s, as well as London’s Tube, bus, and rail networks. You won’t need your wallet and there won’t be any fumbling in purses or pockets. Just take out your phone or use your Apple Watch and swipe to pay.
Apple Pay launched on 14 July, 2015 and is going strong. All major banks with the exception of Barclays support Apple Pay and most retailers have a £20 cap on payments. A few businesses, like eatery chains Pret a Manger and Bill’s are accepting limitless transactions. If you have an iPad or an iTouch, you can use Apple Pay for online transactions. The list of banks on board with the virtual wallet payment system includes NatWest, Nationwide Building Society, Royal Bank of Scotland, Satander, First Direct, and Ulster Bank. HSBC says it will begin to support the service by the end of July.
Here’s How to Use Apple Pay
If your bank is on the list of those supporting Apple Pay, then the only other thing you need is an updated, latest version of iOS on your device. Once your iOS is up to date, then add your credit card(s) or debit card(s). If you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, open the Passbook application and tap the + button on the top right to add your cards. If you are using the card linked to your iTunes account, then you only need to add the CVV security code from the back of the card. When adding new cards, you can use the phone’s camera to automatically add the additional information. Apple Watch users just need to select the Passbook or Apple Pay options on the watch. When using Apple Pay in a store, just hold your finger on the Home button. Payments are secure without anyone handling your credit card and the Apple Pay payment is verified using Touch ID. To pay with an APple Watch, double click the side power button and select the card you want to use. Tilt the watch towards the payment terminal and wait to receive the feedback confirming the transaction was completed.
