April Fool’s Day must be Google’s favorite holiday. Each year, they become more like Foogle and they announce multiple April Fool’s Day jokes and pranks. Google doesn’t stop at just one joke, pretty much each division of the company has its own joke for April 1st.
- Google’s home page today linked to a page that introduced one of their latest product innovations: Google Nose. This new cutting edge product from Google is, of course, in Beta and allows you to search in smell-o-vision. It makes you wonder, if there really was a search that let you smell what you are searching for, if there would be more searches for things that smell nice or things that smell just plain awful. - YouTube made a major announcement late on March 31st, letting viewers know that they the video contest is about to come to an end and that YouTube would be shutting down as of midnight. The video site would not be reopening until 2013 when all of the videos were reviewed and judged to find a winner.
- Google Maps April Fool’s trick was also an interactive activity where you could explore Google Maps Treasure Map version and search for lost pirate treasures using a new digital format.
- Google in Australia also had a map related April Fool’s joke with street view service, which allowed you to makeover your house via a new street view app.
- Google Analytics began showing traffic at the international space station. Just in case you want to know how many people (or beings) are at the space station at any given time, now you have the analytics at your fingertips.
- Probably the funniest prank of the year goes to Google Mobile Wallet’s ATM feature. Tell Google how much money you need, and the Google Mobile Wallet app will print any denomination.
