Although buying promotional torches seems like an easy enough task, it requires a lot of thought and care. In fact, there are eleven crucial factors that you must consider before purchasing your torches or custom printed flashlights. 1. The Light Output
Put simply, a torch’s light output is the intensity of the light that it emits on its highest setting with fresh batteries inside of it. The output is measured in lumens, and you can check that of each torch on the package, usually at the bottom.
The light output you need will depend on what you need the torch for. If you just need the torch to have it at home or on you in the case of a light outage, a standard 20 lumens one will do nicely. However, if you need it for something specific, you will probably do better with something stronger.
2. The Battery Type
There are three types of batteries for torches and flashlights.
Disposable (AAA or AA batteries) are great for outdoor trips because you can easily replace them when they run out of power. If you take enough of them with you, you’ll make sure your torch will always be operational and at your disposal.
Rechargeable batteries (usually lithium-ion ones) can be plugged in and recharged as soon as they stop working. When you buy one, you essentially buy a battery that can last you for years and years, and you simply have to recharge it from time to time. This type of battery is an eco-friendly choice as well, as it minimises waste.
Finally, you also have renewable batteries. These have either a hand crank or a little solar panel on them, which allow for manual charging. These batteries are best for emergency kits, for example.
3. The Run Time
A torch’s run time will affect how useful it is to you. The run time depends on the size of the torch and the strength of the batteries you use.
Size-wise, bigger torches will always have a longer run time than smaller ones. So, you shouldn’t expect pen or pocket-sized torches to last for longer than 30 minutes, as their size doesn’t allow it.
Pricier torches with stronger batteries will always run for longer than those with weaker ones. But in general, it can be said that the run time of the light output will drop by around 10% after about 15 minutes of continued use.
So, consider both your marketing budget and needs before settling for a torch or flashlight, as they will determine how effective it will be.

4. The Size
As we have mentioned, the size of a torch determines how long it will be able to run. However, you should also consider it for other, simpler reasons. All of the above also makes those torches more expensive. However, since they will last you longer, they usually prove to be a better investment than lighter and more affordable torches.
Still, which one you will get depends on what you need it for. For example, if you need a torch for your camping trip, you’ll probably go for something lighter. No one wants to lug around something super heavy while camping, so the quality doesn’t really matter in a case like that.
6. The Bulb Type

7. The Beam Type
The beam type is determined by the light reflectors that surround the bulb. According to that, there are three types of beams.
Fixed beams have one single beam width, and they are the most common on the market. Then, there are focused beams. As the name suggests, with these torches, a single beam is focused into a spotlight. Finally, you also have adjustable beams. Put simply, such torches can operate as either those with a fixed beam or a focused one, depending on your needs.
8. The Modes
Older torch models usually come with a single mode or setting when it comes to light output. If you need more than that, you should look into newer models. If they don’t come with more modes themselves, you can install new ones via a USB cable and your own laptop.
9. The Controls
The controls determine how simple and accessible a torch is to a user. Generally speaking, an on/off push button is the easiest way to operate a torch, However, a switch or a clicking button can work just as well. A more complex control type is the rotating bezel. Apart from letting you turn your torch on and off, it can also control the amount of light that it emits.
10. The Material
If you are looking for something light and easy to clean, going for a plastic or aluminium alloy torch is the best plan. However, those made from heavier metals can resist heavier impact and are much sturdier in general. So, figure out what you need and make a decision accordingly.
11. The Accessories
